Gloucester is playing host to a sparkling selection of Bonfire Night festivities, guaranteed to wow the crowds and amaze the whole family - and we've got a dazzling display of our own...a list of the best displays around town to pack out your calendar!

Longlevens RFC Fireworks & Halloween Night (Longlevens)
Two shows for the price of one: a gentle low-noise display at 5.30pm for smaller ears, then the full show at 7pm. Fancy dress is very much encouraged.

Frampton Fright Night & Fireworks (Frampton on Severn)
Halloween and Bonfire Night rolled into one, on one of the prettiest village greens in the county. Spooky stuff first, then a bonfire and fireworks once it's properly dark.

Coney Hill RFC Fireworks Display (Coney Hill)
A proper community night with fairground rides, chips and a bar. And with fireworks at 6pm, there's a decent chance of getting little ones home before they turn into pumpkins.

Gordon League Fireworks (Hempsted)
Billed as Gloucester's biggest and best, and it's on Bonfire Night itself. Expect a funfair, food stalls and a mascot meet and greet before the main event.
When: Thursday 5 November. Gates 5pm, event runs 5pm to 9pm

Churchdown Fireworks at Chosen Hill RFC (Churchdown)
Advance prices have been roughly halved this year, which makes this one of the best-value nights out going. It's a professional display set to music, with rides and food stalls.

Elmbridge Primary School Firework Display (Elmbridge)
A friendly school PTA night with a BBQ, glow sticks and a DJ. Fireworks at 7pm means it's done and dusted before bedtime negotiations start.

The town council's annual display in the park, and it's very kind to the wallet.

Forest of Dean Lions Fireworks Spectacular (Speech House, Forest of Dean)
The big one. A bonfire in the middle of the forest, Danter's funfair all evening and a 20-minute display over Speech House Field. Under-12s go free, which feels like a small Christmas miracle.
When: Saturday 7 November. Gates 4pm, bonfire 5pm, fireworks 6.30pm, closes 9pm
Price: £12 per adult in advance. Under-12s free with an adult, no ticket needed

Quedgeley Firework Display
A short, sharp 15-minute show on Fishers Meadow with Danter's rides beforehand. It's perfect if your crew's attention span is about 15 minutes too.

A school PTA night with a disco, hot food and a bar, plus fireworks at 6.30pm. That's a sensible hour for anyone with a pre-schooler.

Tips for Bonfire Night in Gloucester
Book ahead where you can. Advance tickets are cheaper almost everywhere, and Frampton and Churchdown Family Firework Evening don't sell on the gate at all.
Pick your time. Coney Hill (6pm), Churchdown Village (6.30pm), Birdlip (6.30pm) and Longlevens' low-noise show (5.30pm) are the early options for smaller children.
Ear defenders are your friend. Bring a pair for babies and noise-sensitive kids, and stand further back than you think you need to.
Cash and card. Gate sales and fairground rides vary, so bring both.
Leave the sparklers and the dog at home. Most displays ban one or both
