Tips for getting the most of our PYO Sunflowers
Don’t hang about
For the best sunflowers, it’ll be first come first served. When they’re gone, they’re gone. So try to come as soon as possible!
Snip Snip
You won’t be able to break the stem off and if you do you’ll probably lose a few petals in the process. We provide secateurs (for adults only) at the PYO hut to make it easy for you to pick your own.
Leave them long
When you snip the stems it’s better to leave them quite long, that way you can cut them to the perfect size for your vase when you get home.
Make it the final stop
If you’re visiting the Summer Trail, picking fruit, or stopping by the farm shop, pick your sunflowers last to prevent them from wilting in a hot car.
Don’t let them go thirsty
It may be worth bringing a container to put a little bit of water in to keep your flowers nice and hydrated on the way home.
Enjoy them for longer
Change the water in your vase and remove all the leaves except the top ones to prevent them from taking all the water from the flower heads.
