Cannop Ponds
Enjoy the peaceful wildlife at Cannop Ponds today. It's a great place for all of the family to explore. There are various walking and bike trails as well as a stream area where the kids can paddle in the water. There is a mobile catering unit available however I'd recommend packing a picnic and taking advantage of the many picnic spots available.
You might also come across a 'Mood Swing' dotted around the place. For more information look at the instagram account @mood.swingsinsta
There's parking on site which is £2 for 2 hours, £4 for up to 4 hours or £5 for the whole day.
The site was originally home to the Severn and Wye Railway, which was constructed to allow exploitation of the mineral resources of the Forest of Dean.
The ponds were created in 1825 and 1829 to supply a waterwheel at Parkend Ironworks. Today, they are used for fishing by the Yorkley Angling Club and the site makes an idyllic spot to view local birdlife. Look out for the Mandarin ducks, reed warblers and a pair of nesting mute swans.
A catering unit operates here during most weekends and school holidays (weather permitting) selling a variety of hot drinks, cakes and burgers.
