Symonds Yat Rock

Places to Visit

Symonds Yat Rock is a great place to visit with the children.  We parked on-site for 4 hours at £5.  There are various walks and cycles paths available to choose from.  We decided to take the short walk up to the view point (which is breath taking), then we made our way down to the river side.  The walk was around 600 meters through the forest paths to get there.  It's quite steep but you arrive easily at the river.  There's a good selection of pubs to eat in, all with outside tables but we decided to picnic on the river bank.  We enjoyed lunch while watching river life, so much so that the children wanted to get involved.  We took the plunge and hired a double canoe. We're a family of five so we had two boats connected together, 3 in one and 2 in the other.  We all had life jackets and enjoyed rowing up and down for about an hour.  We encountered crazy swans, boats, other people in canoes and people learning various water sports.  The children loved it!

Also down by the river you can do a guided boat tour which run throughout the day.  We then walked back up the hill before having a snack at the coffee shop and heading home.

Spend a little or spend a lot it's a great outdoor space with a lot going on to entertain the whole family.
